Description
Welcome to Chapterhouse™ Chrisma beard oil in partnership with Catholic Man UK (CMUK).

This truly Catholic beard oil was founded & is handmade by Samuel Lidgley in Walsingham UK, where he and his wife Frances live with their three children, Raphael, Mabel, and Dorothy.
‘Let my prayer come before you like incense, the raising of my hands like an evening oblation’ (Psalm 140:2)
Chrisma beard oil contains the aromas of frankincense, myrrh, benzoin, and cinnamon, infused in a blend of coconut, sunflower, and grapeseed oil. This complex formula attempts to imitate a recipe in the book of Exodus and is evocative of the awe-inspiring and magnificent aroma of centuries-old worship, liturgy, and prayer.
‘And going into the house they saw the child with his mother Mary, and falling to their knees they did him homage. Then opening their treasures, they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrth’ (Matthew 2:11)
As you may know, Chrisma comes from the Greek meaning ‘to anoint’ or ‘ointment’.
This beard oil is contemporary and innovative but familiar and recognisable by the senses. ‘Olfactory memory’ is the phenomenon that explains how smell can trigger memories and emotions: the scent of frankincense and myrrh wafting up from the beard aims to give rise to memories of baptismal promises and confirmation of the faith, and to help aid daily prayer and devotion to our Lord.
‘It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!’ (Psalm 133:2)
A Myriad of Benefits
Our mixture of botanicals inspired our formula found in the book of Exodus with the added benefits of three seed oils.
Coconut oil: it contains high uric acid properties that nourish, stimulate new hair growth, and stop hair loss.
Sunflower oil: it helps prevent breakage and hair loss. Rich in Omega, fatty acids, and vitamin A, B, C, and E, keeping the hair soft and moisturized.
Grapeseed oil: it can help balance the right amount of moisture in the skin and help prevent frizz, split ends, and dandruff while adding shine to your beard.
A Complex Liturgical Blend
The aroma of Chrisma oil rises from your beard imbued with notes of vanilla, whiskey, wood, and hints of spice.
Benzoin: its rich and ceremonial vanilla-like soothing scent is warming and stimulating.
Frankincense: its woody aroma enhances your mood by reducing stress and anxiety while improving concentration.
Myrrh: it is warm balsamic, with a sweet aromatic spicy fragrance that is uplifting and boosts your mood.
Solomon so valued spices that he expressed his love for his bride above these as the highest comparison:
‘How much better is your love than wine,
And the fragrance of your oils.
Than all kinds of spices!
Nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon,
With all the trees of frankincense,
Myrrh and aloes, along with all the finest spices’
(Song of Solomon 4)
